Thought provoking
As a Virginian, I greatly appreciate the full understanding of the first colony, especially in regards to native relations. However, as a Black woman this show speaks in favor of less simplification, yet over simplifies the actors in this colony. I understand they were talking about early Jamestown, but near the end of the episode they ventured to say that later, around 1619 women came to the colony. In 1619, the first group of Black indentured servants were transported to Jamestown, which wasn’t stated. I get that these colonizers where people. But if this podcast is truly against simplification, in my opinion, it has to state that apart of learning from this failed utopia involved becoming distinctly exclusionary to Black people. Along with all the other parallels stated to now, the institutions of being anti- Black in the American spirit is most visible. On another note, I appreciate the perspectives analyzed in this episode.

I didn’t even know I needed this, but I do. I like the topic of following utopian communities & it works! I love the hosts delivery and voice. The historical research is excellent and it draws a listener in. Great podcast!!
