I ran through how our Super Eagles players performed in the top European leagues over the past week including Taiwo Awoniyi becoming the 1st Nigerian to hit double figures this season for goals in the top 5 European leagues with his 10th of the season in Union Berlin’s 3-1 win over Mainz
In Belgium, Paul Onuachu notched his 16th league goal of the season in Genk’s 2-0 win over KV Kortrijik while Anthony Nwakaeme continued his excellent form for Trabzonspor by scoring a last-minute penalty for Trabzonspor in a 3-2 win over Kayserispor to take them 17 points clear at the top of the Turkish Super Lig. Ahmed Musa was also on the scoresheet this weekend, scoring the winner for Fatih Karagümrük away against Istanbul Basaksehir
In Italy, David Okereke scored his 6th Serie A goal of the season in a 3-1 loss away to Verona while Sadiq Umar continues to push Almeria towards automatic promotion back to La Liga with yet another goal on Friday in a 3-1 win over Fuenlabrada in Spain
In international news, the Super Falcons qualified for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations after beating Ivory Coast 1-0 in Abidjan (3-0 on aggregate) and will head to the tournament later this year as one of the favourites to claim the title
