Protective brother
Hi Tom! Love your work! I’ve recently came across your podcast and I’ve spent a lot of time listening and applying your methods and I’m seeing great results. I’m looking for some insight with one issue I’m having. We have two dogs Loki, a Belgian Malinois about 15 months old and Freya a Labradoodle who is just turning one. Both are fixed and friendly dogs who play well together and with other dogs and people. Loki has a habit of “protecting” his sister when she’s playing with the neighbors dog a Rottweiler named Sunshine. Loki will run over and shoulder check Sunshine and begin biting her collar or face. Sunshine has never but once maybe yelped and I corrected Loki with a sit stay for a few minutes as a time out. Loki also plays rough with both when playing fetch with everyone. Loki will run along side of them while he has a jolly ball or frisbee in his mouth being vocal and shoulder them to the point where they will not run after the initial throw but hang back and let him make first contact with the thrown item and wait for him to drop it. He has never been aggressive with either nor them him. Is there anything that can be done for a softer play with everyone? Thanks for any help and keep up the amazing content. Byron

Tom has been one of my favorite trainers to follow on Instagram for a while now, so when I heard he was doing a podcast, I was so excited. He just has a way of making things regarding dog behavior so easy to understand. I’m hooked!
