Heart, soul, humanity
I stumbled across this by accident, which is an absolute travesty- it should get way more press- but ultimately I’m so glad I found it, and have shared it multiple times! I have long wanted to work in harm reduction and community work, and have had a lot of adjacent experience with clients in this community (as well as first hand experience in other areas of addiction and mental health) and it just makes my heart sing to hear such a beautiful account of the humanity that often gets lost in news headlines, and, the tremendous amount of trauma informed care that goes with working with heroin users, or anyone who is addiction affected. I, like many others, maintain that there should be more safe injecting spaces. Every life matters. Everyone has a story. Don’t be so quick to judge, and consider that all addiction is a heath care problem, not a criminal one. The production of this particular podcast, and the music is sometimes so so(or maybe just not my flavour) but the message and the stories are well worth whatever technical failings(my opinion). Seriously, do yourself a favour and listen. Really listen. And if you feel something after listening, read “chasing the scream” by Johann Hari. I promise it’s worth it ;-)
