Behind the Spray Cans: The Ways of Local Street Artists
Listen now
Description
Street art was once viewed as outsiders of the art industry – it was merely deleterious “vandalism”. But now, it is no longer rejected and is much more appealing to government, businesses, and organisations enough to be commissioned or produced as murals. When strategically placed, it helps with beautification of a neighbourhood, and can have an exceptional return on investment. In this session, we dissected the stories behind the spray cans that are not commonly talked about in the street art scene in Brunei with Fai “Tag One” Zaini, Moi aka Lavrsh, and Azim aka Zimags. From tall buildings to a small corner of a store, what are the processes before one touches the mystifying spray cans, and how can we make this specific form of art sustainable in Brunei?
