No family members were present and Heuermann’s estranged wife, Asa Ellerup, confirmed that the home had been searched. It isn’t clear what prompted police to search the home or what specific information they were seeking. The medical examiner arrived at the home later in the morning and NewsNation’s Laura Ingle saw very large evidence bags being carried out of the home.
