The Old Roommate Effect.
It’s weird, you listen to an episode and then you have this need to watch the Show or Movie or Video they discussed. I haven’t thought about ET in 30 years, but there I was watching ET again. The show is strong. 2 roommates, drawn back together, with 25 years of life experience behind them, taking a “shallow dive” into their subject matter with great aplomb. They take it seriously, notes and all, usually picking up things they missed in their youth, asking good questions and ultimately deciding if the subject matter holds up. They seem to agree a lot, but from very different points of view. They are real friends and are very easy to listen to. I am not sure I “get” the Match Game they play at the conclusion of every episode. but it is fun. The only thing I would change is the sound. There is an echo in the room that reverberates especially loudly when they laugh, and they laugh a lot. Unofficially, my favorite part of the podcast is the the occasional walk-on by”Shorty”, Brian’s cat. Shorty meows away over Brian’s frantic apologies, adding his opinion to the podcast. Problem is, I don’t speak cat.

It’s so refreshing to listen to a podcast that is filled with real connection. The chemistry here is so strong and their love of pop culture is deep. In a world full of bad news, Old Roommates is a much needed positive boost. Try not to laugh when they laugh, I dare you.
