What It Takes To Be A World Champion with Boxing Legend Johnny Nelson

Description
This week I’m on a mission with Sky Sports pundit and long-reigning WBO cruiserweight champion, Johnny Nelson in this incredibly emotional interview.  Johnny had a disastrous beginning to life in the pros and took some hard lessons as he tells us how being publicly shamed after a world title fight left him in an extremely dark place.  In this raw and extremely honest interview, we get to hear firsthand how Johnny clawed his way to success against all the odds with the support of his legendary coach Brendan Ingle whole also trained “Prince" Naseem Hamed, Junior Witter, and Kell Brook. It’s an emotional, engaging and inspiring interview, with so much wisdom shared.  KEY TAKEAWAYS At first, Johnny didn’t even want to box. He joined the gym for friends, but it was here he met his lifelong mentor Brendan Ingle at age 14 and he changed the trajectory of his life forever Johnny’s gym in Wincobank Sheffield was often the subject of mockery but that one small gym produced 16 British champions with its often unorthodox and unusual methods. Johnny was told often that he didn’t have the confidence to match his boxing ability, even after he was consistently winning. At the height of his career, Johnny began receiving a lot of negative attention and abuse, this led him to the lowest point in his life, where he even contemplated suicide. Naysayers are everywhere and can be people close to you. But they don’t see or understand what you do, you can’t surround yourself with people like this, you must listen to yourself and pursue your dreams, anything is achievable with the correct mindset. It took Johnny years to gain the confidence in himself that he has now, he had to train his mind and learn to listen to his own voice, his gut, to believe in himself. You either learn from the difficult times in your life or you will be broken by them. Your actions have to be aligned with your goals in order to achieve them. You have to create your own methods that work for you. One act of discipline can set you and your mindset for the rest of your life. Once you get used to exercising your mind with willpower once, you can continue to do this forever. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you do well once people say it’s luck but if you keep repeating that you are doing something right’ ‘If I was a stronger man I would have seriously considered taking my own life’ ‘As long as I believed I was the best then I performed the best’ ‘Naysayers can come in all shapes and sizes’ ‘the lesson I learnt was mental strength’ ‘Everyone needs one discipline in their life’ VALUABLE RESOURCES On A Mission - https://omny.fm/shows/on-a-mission   Johnny Nelson - https://johnnynelsonfoundation.org Johnny Nelson Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/johnnynelsonsky/?hl=en  ABOUT THE HOST Not so long ago, life was barely recognisable for Ellie McKay, raising three children under five, battling post-natal depression, facing redundancy and walking into the job centre to claim benefits with a double pram, no confidence, and wracked with insecurities.
