What is the point of this second series?
To ‘expose’ Donna Tartt? The host seems thrilled to have plucked some characters drawn on for the novel The Secret History, to appear as disgruntled talking heads. It’s disingenuous. All writers draw on their experience? Bret Easton Ellis appears, mainly for the gossipy intel about various Bennington escapades but the two stories don’t really mesh especially well. Ellis evades criticism for doing the same thing Tartt is seemingly accused of. The merit here is in capturing the special feel of this period in literature and art, although perhaps it’s just reminding you of what those cultural high points are. You’re better off going back to revisit the texts yourself.
