Description
For this program, we turned the spotlight on to two new programs that explore Australia’s broad, diverse and in some cases, very hidden and heartbreaking queer history. First up we reviewed the highly anticipated new Aussie series ‘In Our Blood’ which premiered Sunday March 19 at 8.30PM on ABC TV, with all episodes then available to binge on ABC iview. This captivating four-part musical drama series is set in the 80’s, has an incredible cast with a fantastic selection of music from the time that beautifully tells the story of people from politics, medicine and within affected communities grappling separately with a terrifying new disease known as AIDS. We were joined by the wonderful Jane Allen, one of the writers and executive producers of the series, to take us behind the scenes and tell us what it took to take this incredible story from the stage to the screen. We also showcased ‘Queerstralia’, a brilliantly engaging three-part documentary series now streaming on ABC Iview. Hosted by the very funny and very lesbian Zoe Coombs Marr, ‘Queerstralia’ wipes away the straightwashing and reveals the untold and fascinating queer history of Australia.
