JOY Radiothon 2023: Together We Thrive
Listen now
Description
JOY’s annual fundraising drive (a.k.a Radiothon) was back live from the Victorian Pride Centre for 2023 and for this show we were too, broadcasting live in the studio for the first time in a long time! The theme for this years Radiothon is ‘Together We Thrive’ so we took this opportunity to look at the intersection of community and film. Just as JOY is about community, so too is queer film. Both mediums look to reflect the voices of our diverse communities and give us opportunities to be seen and heard – and we know how important representation is. But also, film is an experience – and like JOY, our film and cinema industries rely on our communities to thrive. To acknowledge and celebrate this, we had on special guests Lisa Rose, Director of the Mardi Gras Film Festival, and Cinema Nova CEO Kristian Connelly. We also discussed the films and Out Takes moments that showcase the importance of representation in film and our community. Photo (L – R): Campbell, Alan, Conrad, Daniel.
