Description
There is nothing better than getting into a cosy cinema in winter and enjoying some quality queer films so we took this program as an opportunity to highlight some of the fantastic films and festivals to check out in Melbourne this June. We caught up with Palace Cinema CEO Ben Zeccola about this years Spanish Film Festival which is bringing a 32 film strong line up of diverse and quality cinema from Spain and Latin America across Australia into mid July. Celebrating 25 years in 2023, this years festival highlights include a focus on Women in Filmmaking, a comprehensive Carlos Saura retrospective, an Uruguayan documentary with an Australian connection and much more. We were also joined by special guest and good friend of the show Paul Tonta from Madman Cinema to review Cinema Nova’s Pride on Screen program. This curated selection of premiere screenings, new releases and big-screen classics explores a diverse range of stories from across the LGBTQI+ experience. It includes ‘All The Beauty and The Bloodshed’ which will also be streaming exclusively on DocPlay from June 29. From Academy Award winner Laura Poitras, this incredibly powerful documentary about internationally renowned artist and activist Nan Goldin told through her slideshows, intimate interviews, ground-breaking photography, and rare footage of her personal fight to hold the Sackler family accountable for the opioid crisis.
