“May I not be a noisy gong or clanging cymbal, so please hear this critique as Faith expressed as Love for the sheep AND Shepherds: “Preacher”is not one of the Solos. Faith comes by hearing the Word but preachers certainly aren’t the only or necessary source of proclaiming it. Scripture makes that very clear. If the Augsburg Confession says otherwise, as I think I just heard Dr. Paulson state, I must decline joining a Lutheran church I am attending. Faith comes by hearing the WORD, including by reading it aloud and even if via an Audio Bible. On at least this point, Dr. Paulson is lessening the Light of Truth with shadowy philosophy. Please don’t use scripture as a launchpad for any such non-Biblical human interpretation. Second, when promising, and across more than one episode, to explain a particularly baffling scripture, please at least do so instead of talking around it for hours while veering off into your philosophy. Very frustrating. Finally, Freud is an incredibly poor choice for source material, being without the indwelling Holy Spirit and instead perhaps with its opposite. But hey, gotta love the show’s wild west outlaw music. Remember folks, we can know them by their fruit. Laughing a lot at all interpretations other than thine own is not the Spirit’s fruit of humility. Peace to all of you who are in Christ. Amen!”
