Christy Martin stepped into the boxing ring for the first time in 1986 with zero training, zero experience but all the heart in the world. She quickly grabbed the attention of boxing promoters and was introduced to a man named Jim Martin who would become her boxing coach and husband. With her raw talent and tenacity, Christy Martin paved the way and made a name for females in professional boxing. However, despite her success in the ring and her seeming to be untouchable, her trainer husband had an abusive hold on her through physical and emotional abuse. This is something the outside world wouldn't be privvy to until November 23, 2010 when Christy is stabbed and shot by Jim Martin and left to die... but just like her fighting spirit in the ring, she didn't go down for the count and she survived.
