The following issues are discussed by Dayan Raskin in this week’s episode: 1) Question from a Sem. girl in EY: If I hear the alarm, I am supposed to take shelter in a ‘safe room’ and lock it from inside. If I come there and there is a single man there; may I lock the door? In other words: Does Yichud apply in case of danger? [1] 2) May a woman braid Tzitzis?[2] 3) Do ice-cream cones need to be Pas Yisroel?[3] 4) May a gartel be brought into a WC? [4] 5) Following the Shabbos Kiddush/Farbrengen, the floor in our Beis Chabad is quite dirty. We have a cleaner come tidy up in time for Mincha. If she chooses to use a mop, must I stop her from doing so?[5] 6) Is it true that if an error was discovered in a Sefer Torah during the Toichocho or during the list of 42 journeys, one should not stop leining until finishing that unit?[6] 7) We’re not permitted to teach Torah to non-Jews. What about teaching them the Hebrew alphabet and to read Hebrew?[7] 8) The Mishna states that one should not enter a bath-house before Mincha[8]. So, what’s the basis for men going to Mikvah on Friday afternoon, before Mincha? [9] 9) I’m making a large function in a local hotel. The kosher caterer is coming from abroad. May we serve hot food on the glass dishes that belong to the hotel? [5] בכף החיים סי' שלז ס"ק כא הביא ממהריק"ש בס' אהלי יעקב סי' צד להקל מכיון שהנכרית יכולה להסיר המים ע"י מכבדת של קש. ונמצא שסחיטת הסחבה היא להנאת עצמה, ע"כ. ויש לעיין באיסור סחיטת המים מהסחבה, שאינו צריך למים הללו, וגם אין כוונתו לכבס. [6] מחלוקת בזה בשו"ע סי' קמג. בסדר דרך החיים סי' פא מורה כהמרדכי – לקרות בס"ת הפסול עד שיוכל לעצור. בקצות השלחן סי' פא מביא שאין מפסיקים בתוכחה ובמסעות.
