The true heir to Gay Byrne’s Late Late Show.
The sheer brilliance of this podcast somewhat surprised me at first. As a gay man who grew up in his teens and early twenties in Celtic Tiger era Ireland, I was more than familiar with Miss Panti Bliss. Panti was an icon on the gay scene long before she achieved word wide fame during the Marriage Equality Campaign. Her annual trip to MC Alternative Miss Cork was the highlight of the social calendar when I was finding my feet as a newly out gay boy. But Panti was a larger than life character, a statuesque, awe-inspiring MC, heavily rooted in visual performance. Since I moved to the States, Panti has achieved even greater fame as a world renowned equality campaigner, a bar owner and a boba fide “main stream” celebrity. Now even larger than her previous larger than life persona, Panti seeme to me a cross between Cersei Lannister and RuPaul Charles, an unrivaled but perhaps somewhat aloof/unknowable “Queen of Ireland” But through Pantisocracy, I have come to discover a much more personal side to Panti. She shares so much of her own journey and story that was previously unknown to me. Through the medium of podcasting I feel I have a new insight and knowledge of Panti as a person. And as an interviewer, Panti incredibly intelligent, thoughtful and engaging. The themes for discussion are varied and sometimes surprising. Her guests are often people I have never heard of before but they always provide a unique insight into 21st century Ireland. Conversation ebbs and flows so naturally and so warmly on this podcast. I love how rambling and “off topic” discussions can be and I always learn something next and surprising about my country when I listen. Panti, like the great Gay Byrne successfully combines having her own strong identity and point of view whilst also being an incredibly skilled interviewer and she expertly presided over boisterous panel discussions. Pantisocracy is the closest thing I have seen to the classic Late Late shows hosted by Gay Byrne on RTÉ television and as 35 year old gay member of the Irish diaspora abroad, Pantisocracy is a uniquely important link for me to my home. Thank you Panti for being my Uncle Gaybo.

Dr Panti Bliss has such a way with words (and segues!), bringing out the best from the guests. Conversations are genuine and natural, and you find yourself relating to people you may not have anything in common with. The Queen of Podcasts wears her crown with pride.

I love this podcast. Found it half way through season 1 & listened back to the other episodes. So delighted season 4 has started. It’s funny, it’s entertaining, it tackles real life issues brilliantly. The monologues are superbly written & delivered in a way only Pantibliss could. What...Read full review »
