The Wind Beneath My Wings
I was a down and out ex High School player(started both ways), heading to the local high school to “volunteer “ as coach, even though my services were clearly not wanted. I enjoyed driving the sled in circles and always keeping my pad level low running through the chutes. The constant harassment from players and various legal threats, stating “I’m not a coaches assistant/player mentor” like my homemade name tag said. left me a battered man. My son was too young to start training and lacked the killer instinct in Syracuse drills his pop once had. Might as well of had a daughter...Anyway I found myself drinking a lot more and scoring K2 from local skater kids- watching a lot of game tape and high school games from 500 yards with binoculars as legally required. I was thinking of going home and shooting myself in the head with my juggs machine when some voices came through my phone. I don’t know how it happened but PMT began playing and it was like the first real conversation I’ve had in years-I was a lonely man ( my wife is living in shack in back yard I built for her and Tommy. Solid guy). Suddenly I had two football guys in Big Cat and PFT that GOT me.They taught me I DID have something to offer as a washed up football guy and suddenly my life began to change. Each week I’d laugh and each week my core values were validated and My self esteem skyrocketed. I’m now the offensive coordinator for my nephews Pop Warner team and we went 8-1 this year behind my triple option. My son still refuses to play with me but I see him and Tommy having fun in the yard and it’s turned my heart to a warm mushy pile of velveeta. So thank you boys, you gave this football guy his life and his purpose back. You guys literally saved my life and brought untapped, innovative coaching to a group of kids who only knew how to run the wishbone. Highly recommend 5/5.
