“I am sitting here with tears literally streaming down my cheeks after listening to the latest episode of the Pop Culture Preservation Society about 1970’s Christmas albums.
When the Partridge Family’s Christmas album came out I was a lonely little gay boy in a deeply homophobic Midwestern town who loved the Partridge Family with no reservations. One day in early December my mother came home from work and handed my a bag containing A Partridge Family Christmas Card. It was a bit of a shock, because I generally did not get albums unless it was a special occasion, such as a birthday or Christmas. To get new album on a random day in December was very special. I immediately put it on the stereo and played it again and again.
Fast forward to a few minutes ago and suddenly hearing David Cassidy singing “To you and all your family, your neighbors and your friends…” which I haven’t heard for decades, I burst into tears.
That’s what this podcast does for you. It’s a clear eyed, funny look at the parts of your childhood that you loved but may have half forgotten. It is nostalgic, but not in a stupid way. It can make you laugh like crazy and then suddenly and unexpectedly move you. It’s like getting to spend time with the funny, snarky childhood friends who were the few people who really understood you back then.
Highly recommended.”
