68. Volume: Rachel Luna: Equity

Description
What’s the difference between equity and equality? And why does it matter? Well, equality ensures that everyone has access to the same thing. Equity, however, is about getting everyone what they need to thrive. When we focus only on equality, we’re denying that there may be factors within our control, contributing to why some people aren’t thriving. And that makes us uncomfortable. In this volume of The Psychology of Entrepreneurship… Rachel Luna wants everyone to be aware of their identity at every moment. As host of the Permission to Offend podcast, Rachel Luna explores self-discovery on every episode. And when it comes to identity, Rachel sure has lots to examine. She has been featured in Forbes and Huffington Post for her many coaching and speaking accolades. She is the author of the best-selling book Successful People Are Full of C.R.A.P. and creator of The Faith Activated Journaling Experience. She’s also a former US Marine and Iraq War Veteran, a mother to two girls and a breast cancer survivor. Rachel believes that successful entrepreneurs must be aware of their identity on a day to day, moment to moment basis. If you don’t know who you are, how can you possibly know what you can offer? This also ties into her strong emphasis on equity in entrepreneurship and in society overall. In this volume, Rachel and I discuss the difference between equality and equity and why it matters. We explore her experiences with sexism in the military and why she’s had to break down the “we don’t see colour” mentality ingrained in her as a child. She explains the significance of equity so eloquently in this volume, and in such a way that made me rethink some of my long-held attitudes towards race and gender. We really do need to acknowledge our differences. It’s the only way we’re able to see where the cracks in the system may lie.
