“From my office, I could hear the soft closing action of Sir Lawrence’s 2004 Jaguar XJ8.
Although I’d stepped down to the Merc, still a luxury car, Sir Lawrence had kept his Jag, he had bought his outright and with his financial nous his was right to. Autotrader had claimed the XJ8 would have a slower monthly depreciation than any other 2litre car on the market.
I could hear Sir Lawrence ask Julie to get him a brandy, 10:30 might seem early for a alcoholic beverage, but he knew he could sleep it off with his usual afternoon siesta.
“Morning Steven” he said, “Good morning Sir Lawrence, everything Ok?” I knew that if he ever addressed me as Steven, something wasn’t quite right.
“I’m not quite sure how to say this? So I’m just gonna come out and say it, have you been listening to the wireless this morning?”
“I’ve had the radio on in the back ground this morning” I said, “but I haven’t really been listening”. The radio presenters of today were no match of the guys of the early 90’s, Mike Reed and DLT!
“I take it you’ve not heard then? Ryan Bobson, your journey man centre midfielder has gone missing after our walking in the Peak District!!”
“Good god, no not Bobson! He is our lynchpin!”
“I’ll organise a search party” said Sir Lawrence, “I’ll spare no expense to bring him home safely”
“I’ll lead the search” I said, I knew the Peaks like the back of my hand, from the village of Thorpe just outside Stoke on Trent up to Meltham which was only along the A62 from Ledesford.
There were just 3 men I needed with me on this potential life threatening trek, my old hiking buddies Josh, Michael and Chris.
I called Julie on the office intercom, “Julie, get my Quickly Kevin on the line!””
