Too Much “Stuff” Not Enough Substance
I originally gave this podcast 5 stars and a rave review (I mentioned in the old review that my son was 2 months old; he’s now 1.5 years old), but I can hardly listen now. There’s so much interrupting from Joe and long examples that fail to illustrate Anea’s actual “point” because he didn’t finish letting her make it! This happens often. I’m saddened by how often Anea is cut off, since she’s the one that offers the most valuable input. This isn’t to say that Joe offers no value. He does illustrate and sum up points effectively, but there is way to much not-so-funny interjections that result in a complete loss of whatever Anea was going to say. They never seem to circle back after the interruption. Also, they recently had a guest on the show (“Who Changed Math?”), and they both constantly interrupted him for quips and input that wasn’t needed. For a show that talks about respecting other’s beliefs, inputs, etc. they didn’t do that with this guy. He would be on the cusp of making an interesting point and then a rude interruption forced him to “mmhmm mmhmm” for 3 minutes while his valuable input was buried under non-substantive “stuff.” In sum, this show has great things to offer. But I’m estimating that there’s a total of, gosh, 7 minutes per episode of valuable, thoughtful, interesting information. The rest of the time is full of ads, quips, and interruptions. I used to love this show a lot, but I’m getting tired of it.

Great material balancing Joe's battlefield experience of parenting and Anea's practical research and real-world practice with their kids. As a dad of 2, I consistently find something to relate to in these podcasts. Loved the Pennywise episode. Keep it up Joe and Anea!Read full review »

Relevant, fun and practical. Great listen for the afternoon commute, arriving home more mindful. Curious, could you do some shows on the early years, i.e. Toddlers? I've heard good things about a book by Tovah Klein, possible guest? Great podcast, thanks!Read full review »
