Two specifications in Leviticus 17 constrained the ancient Israelite who wished to remain faithful to the covenant. Psalm 17 is a prayer for vindication. Certainly David knows that he is not always righteous (see Ps. 51!). Observe the pattern of capital letters: “I said to the LORD, ‘You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing’” (Ps. 16:2).
