Description
In this episode of "Hot Wash" host John Sorensen speaks with authors and national security experts Andrew Hoehn and Thom Shanker about their new book, “Age of Danger: Keeping America Safe in an Era of New Superpowers, New Weapons, and New Threats.” Shanker and Hoehn examine the "Warning Machine" and the "Action Machine" in the National Security and Defense apparatus. Where does it fail, what is it missing, and how do we fix it to prepare for new challenges like the pacing threat of China, the potential of new pandemics, cyber and AI, as well as climate change? Andrew Hoehn is Senior Vice President and Director of Research at the RAND Corporation. He was the deputy assistant secretary of defense for strategy, responsible for developing and implementing U.S. defense strategy, force planning and assessments, and long-range policy planning. Thom Shanker is director of the Project for Media and National Security. He was the National Security/Foreign Policy Editor for the New York Times, Washington Bureau and co-author of the NYT Bestseller “Counterstrike: the Untold Story of America’s Secret Campaign Against Al Qaeda.”
