“As a physician, seeing this sort of thing occur hits very close to home. In April of this year an 11 year old Wisconsin girl died from Type I diabetes. This is a disorder where the pancreas stops making insulin causing dangerous, even lethal, alteration of the normal metaobolism of glucose, the sugar we all use for energy. Since the work of scientists Banting and Best (Nobel prize) we know this disorder is treatable, easily so. Yet these parents refused to let the daughter get care and insisted on 'More Prayer!' The child died and needlessly. The parents are now being sued for wrongful death. But why not the Vatican? Or any other organization that trumpets faith for its power to heal , sometimes even in the face of conventional treatments that failed! I am sure the couple (who worked at a Chik-fil-A) had far less scientific education and ability to be skeptical of such claims. When no less an authority than the Vatican states that a piece of cloth with John Paul's name written on it 'cured' a nun of her Parkinson's, how is the everyday citizen supposed to discern when to accept traditional medicine vs faith based medicine. It seems an unspoken rule among believers to get every last bit of scientifically proved effective treatment and only then to 'trust in God'. How brave of them. But what happens when someone actually believes their faith can heal and then acts accordingly? Criminal ! Lock those two up for not knowing that we really meant 'power to heal' only after all scientific methods are tried! Lastly, only the Church was allowed to confirm the miracle of her healing. Requests by outside neurology groups who wanted to perform standard Parkinson's testing (such as an MRI Image of the Substantia Nigra) were denied access. Allelujiah.”
