“I didn’t watch Glee when it was airing. Not only was I in elementary school at the time, but I was also so repressed are you kidding me I would’ve thought Glee was filthy because they said hell in it. But I was always a theatre kid and quarantine was my gateway to start watching. I am now obsessed.
As a first-time viewer, I need “elders” to guide me. With the experience of knowing in hindsight that Glee was sketchy as hell, yet still having experienced the charm and the thrill firsthand in the moment. Lena and Ian deftly combine adult jadedness with childlike wonder, the exact perspective I needed to create a well-rounded (if somewhat biased, but if I wanted unbiased I’d read a Wikipedia page! Bias is what gives things charm) portrait of this unique phenomenon. The best people to trash on anything are people who once were (or still are) the thing’s unabashed supporters, or are otherwise indebted to it. I did choir in middle and high school, and here I am, indebted in my own way. And I’m ready for Glee opinions (and Glacts)!
Who are these people? I don’t know, a couple of twenty-somethings who watched Glee at some point? Exactly. The two play off of each other well, and I want nothing more, nothing less. My family thinks I am an insane person because I don’t shut up about glee. This is a wonderful outlet!”
