Capitalism is the Hope of the Working Class
I’m definitely part of the working class, but this gives me high hopes for the future. As an American living in a free market, I have the privilege of being able to work hard and succeed as a result. I walked into one of my favorite stores as a 19-year-old, inquired about working there, and had a job within days. I put my heart into what I did and soon scored the highest performance review out of around 60-70 other workers. I quickly began working my way up in both position and pay. Later on, I chose to leave my first job and go to one that paid even better. The more I showed good character and good work ethic to my bosses, the more I succeeded and climbed. I’ve also worked as an independent contractor and even started my own business as a teenager selling handmade soaps. The freedom to own property, to buy and to sell, is a freedom I have due to living in a capitalist society. The opportunity to work hard and do well is an opportunity I have due to living in a capitalist society. Socialism would strip me of this opportunity. Socialism would strip me of my freedom. I’d no longer have the freedom to choose my job, choose my education, or choose my wages. There would be no incentive to work hard and take risks. The government would take control of everything. Do we really trust the government that much? Look at the governments of other Marxist countries. Look at the cut-throat, corrupt killers who took power. How many millions of innocent lives died under Stalin’s command? What about Mao’s? I’ve been to Berlin. I saw the wall, the concrete, the barb wire. And, I saw the memorials to all the citizens of the USSR who were shot by their own government while trying to escape their Marxist rule. I am from Generation Z. We will refuse socialism and all the violations of human rights that it brings. We will continue to embrace the opportunities and privileges we have as the working class—the working class who is, thanks to capitalism, free to work their way up.
