Closing Time goodbye and thank you
Fellas, I just wanted to thank you for the last few years listening to fun and insightful Redskins talk. I went to my first Skins game the last year at RFK with my Dad and immediately fell in love with everything about the franchise. The colors, the song, the tailgate, the way the stadium shook that day everything about the team was something to be a part of, I wanted to be a Redskin fan. We lost that with the Cardinals coming back in an awesome game and as an one 31 year old looking back I shoulda known it was only down hill from there. The Skins were my Dads team we spent summers watching old VHS tapes learning about the glory years. He taught me everything he knew about the team. In the fall we watched every game playing catch at halftime. My Dad loved that team and him being my hero I loved them as well. Unfortunately he passed away in the late Summer if 1999(ironically the first Snyder year) and like any young kid that lost a parent I avoided showing emotion. The Washington Redskins were my outlet, my therapy. That team got me through the grieving process. As a 21 year old with my first paycheck I bought my first set of seasons tickets and have been a proud season ticket owner for the last 9 years. Unlike the team the seats have improved and our group commutes 4 hours one way to go to games, stays in the area and try’s to make it out to a few divisional away games a year. This team has carried me through so much. And when I hear The Redskins I think of those times with my Dad, playing football in the school yard, buying the Redskins starter jacket at goodwill, the wins, the losses, the good and the bad. The Redskins are my favorite football team. Unfortunately that’s all over now. To me the name change dosent eliminate the history but just ends it. My connection to the team is no longer. The Redskins were my Dad and My team. Whatever they become simply will not be the same. I appreciate what you have done over the years in following and covering the team. In closing I’ll say this. It’s a shame the Mike Florio’s and locally Mike Wise’s, people who have made a living off of being able offended for others had to beat the drum so load this had to happen. My fandom has come to an end. It was the final straw. Those people are miserable human being and will never be happy as cancel culture never is satisfied . What’s even more sad is nobody in the media decided to defend the team name. Instead it was “all the new names or dumb”, or “if you don’t support the new name your not really a fan”. I own a Shane Matthews 75 year jersey, don’t tell me I’m not a fan. In the end, quite simply the Redskins name allowed me to feel closer to my old man. It’s been my team, without the name it’s no longer my team. I probably won’t be listening to y’all anymore but I just wanted to say thanks. Goodluck

Great podcast for a Skins fan living in Myrtle Beach. Great listen and similar perspectives for a fan old enough to remember last Super Bowl win in ‘92 but too young to recall glory days of the 80’s. Podcast is way better then Jay’s clock management🙄
