“I think you bring a lot of valuable insights on this topic but I disagree with your narrow focus on abortion. You want to fight racism from the beginning - conception. I argue that the fight against racism would start before conception - to provide education, single mother support, family care, after school programs for children and job opportunities at a community level that allow women (with or without partners) to actually feel able to make the decision to keep their child. It’s easy to point at the world and say “Change your belief on this” so that the world will be saved. However Christians ought to be the first to identify that the problem is within OURSELVES instead of deflecting to the world. We believe we need a savior for the flaws within ourselves that aim for self-preservation, self-promotion and self-idolization; this sounds like a feeding ground for racism. I say this not to make small of abortion but rather to magnify the depth of the wounds of racism. I think we need to ask ourselves why there is a disproportionate number of black men and women who feel like abortion is their best option? Being pro life means more than just anti abortion but also pro life for those around us every day. We have to empower black lives to the end as they struggle and succeed in normal day to day life (even when this asks more of us). We cannot help solve a problem we refuse to acknowledge. And it sounds like a time for the Church to be the helping hands, feet and purse for a community that has been hurting for a while.
I realize you discuss more than just this single topic but I felt another view on Ep 5 was important.”
