Great interviews and valuable advice.
Sarah and Chase Kosterlitz created a weekly podcast to provide inspiring and useful relationship advice. As newlyweds and parents, they feel they have something to offer to those who seek to connect with others through stronger, healthier relationships. Every week since March 14, 2014, Chase and Sarah tackle a new theme around relationships including intimacy, trust, communication, infidelity, dating, breakups and conflict management. Each podcast features interviews with professionals, therapists or couples on any particular subject. The first episode I listened to was called Improve Intimacy in 2018, which was posted on Jan. 3, 2018. In this episode, guest star Dr. Logan Levkoff discussed sexual health and intimacy. More specifically, she delved into how to maintain this closeness for those with a chronic illness. Chase acknowledges that while most of us aren’t dealing with a chronic illness, we’re all capable of relating, because we can be – and likely are - dealing with something at any given time. This could be something as serious as depression or something as common as having a bad day. The second episode I watched was called Just Be Nice that was posted on Dec. 27, 2017. Guest star Laura Jack, author of best-seller, The Compassion Code: How to Say the Right Thing When the Wrong Thing Happens, taught listeners how we can effectively communicate during challenging moments in our lives. Jack gives tips and tools on how to be more empathetic towards our partners, others and ourselves. I think this podcast had valuable and useful content that listeners can actually apply in their everyday lives. A lot of podcasts or advice services sometimes educate people but do not offer tangible advice, and the ideas put forth therefore seem theoretical and abstract. This podcast was successful in combatting that. In addition, their advice can be applied to all kinds of relationships, including same-sex and transgender. The hosts, Sarah and Chase, were great in a sense that they were clear, concise and asked great questions of their guests. This made for interesting interviews that generated candid content. However, Chase and Sarah are soft spoken and laid back, making the podcast not particularly upbeat or engaging unless you’re committed or invested in the content. For that reason, this podcast may be for the active listener who is making a conscious choice to keep listening until the end, rather than the passive listener who is browsing or looking for something that reels them in with charisma and enthusiasm. The advertisements in the podcast were appropriate for the podcast and their audience. In both episodes, a couples retreat to Costa Rica with Chase and Sarah was the introduction topic. The remaining few advertisements were near the end of the episodes, just before the closing remarks with the guests. These were HelloFresh, Talkspace and Zola. The hosts did a great job at blending the ads with their conversation. Sarah and Chase split the content of each ad. This breaks it up rather than one monotone voice that sounds like its being read off a script. The ad content was conversational, where Chase and Sarah could give their personal testimonies and exchange wit back and forth. For example, while Sarah promotes HelloFresh, a meal kit delivery service, she talks about how the black bean quesadilla is one of her favourites due to her love for Mexican food. This makes the advertisements relaxed, natural and easy to listen to – an effective result of providing advertisements. I would rate the I Do Podcast four out of five stars. Chase and Sarah find meaningful ways to deliver messages and advice that real people care about in relationships. They offer realistic goals for listeners to achieve in small bites and host credible and engaging guests. They could do to intermittently spice up their voices as hosts a little bit, making the episodes livelier that show off their personalities.
