“I am new to Reno and the Truckee. This show was an excellent intro to the river for me, and the professional approach to presenting the information and data was an unexpected but welcome change to a “fishing show”. I can’t wait to get out on the water. I am a triathlete and have been running along the river the past couple of month. Time to get a Straightline….
I was in Steamboat Springs this summer, and watched a fisheries biologist and his team of students and volunteers doing the same type of research on a stretch of the Yampa River below Stagecoach Reservoir. The shocking (pun intended) results of the sampling on a stretch of river I fished the day before was eye opening. This section of the river was essentially wiped clean of rainbow and cutthroat during the whirling disease epidemic. Fortunately, this section of the river is bookended with two dams and the resulting efforts to reestablish the Cutthroat and rainbows seemed to have a positive outcome.
I would love to see a similarly well presented discussion on the Yampa by a local shop in Steamboat, as was this podcast with the Reno Fly Shop and Travis.
