REV On Air: How Beautiful Design Can Regenerate the World with Sebastian Cox Furniture
Listen now
Description
Today, we are extremely excited to be speaking to our first sustainable furniture maker, the amazing Sebastian Cox. With Cora having just bought her first home, she has been thinking a lot about the impact of what we put in our homes - the unsustainable deforestation, carbon footprints and waste that comes from so much of the furniture we buy so today’s episode feel very close to her now. Sebastian is a furniture designer, craftsman and environmentalist working with British woodlands. Creating furniture from locally sourced wood has allowed Sebastian Cox to make his company and his employees carbon negative. Last year, Cox stored 100 tonnes of carbon dioxide in timber products such as furniture, kitchens and tree houses, he calculates. Now, he's on track to "smash" this record in 2021. According to Sebastian, "The design community should be leading the material world into an intense period of re-greening and cooling our planet, and it should start by finding ways to make the excess carbon we have in our skies a resource to be used to regenerate our earth.” Sebastian see design as a way to save the world, and his manifesto on how Britain can regenerate it’s woodlands through sustainable production, tree planting and and biodiversity building is truly quite something to read. We will ask him to cover most of his beliefs today, and this episode is a perfect mix of sustainable design, regenerating woodlands, building biodiversity and ethical furniture production.  Follow Sebastian's work here: https://www.instagram.com/sebastiancoxltd/ And learn more here: https://www.sebastiancox.co.uk/environmental-policy
