Oh I couldn’t resist it, could I? There I was, saying absolutely no more posts for a few days, but sorry, here’s a very quick one about The Almanac, as it may come in handy. I love, love, LOVE this book - it’s a brilliant Christmas present for anyone - and this isn’t a plug, by the way. I just need to share it with you to help out if you’re stuck for ideas or last-minuting. Remembering that today is the Winter Solstice, I quickly turned to her book for more information, and found this lovely excerpt. It’s from an earlier edition, deliberately chosen to avoid spoilers. Lia Leendertz’s ‘The Almanac - A Seasonal Guide’ is one of those books that stays in a handy place all year round. I remember getting very excited when she first launched an actual ALMANAC, having been a staunch, somewhat nerdy fan of ‘Old Moore’s Almanac’ when I was probably only 7 or 8. I have to say that I never quite understood this funny little publication, a tiny black and white newspaper almost, but I used to force my mother to buy it, intrigued as I was by the charts and predictions and general whiff-of-witchiness about it all. Does anyone else remember this at all? (I’m really hoping some of you do!) Lia’s version is much more comprehensible but just as enchanting, even more so perhaps. The notes on this December’s Cold Moon which I’ve recorded for you here are just a taster of the magic. Tide tables and legend, moon gardening and song. Enjoy. Love Jo This is a public episode.
