“Listening to Rob is literally a selfish indulgence for me. The inspirational era and influences Rob speaks of with such passion and insight are the same stories and artists that resonated with my youth.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of listening is hearing the cultural context these comics were released in - what was happening on television, in film, in society as a whole. Comics reflect so much of our society and those aspects of the art form are too often overlooked. Rob paints those pictures, and as a 59 year old man, his history and context resonate with me.
Beyond that selfish indulgence is this inter-generational portal that Rob provides. My two adult sons were exposed to comics through my love of them - but it would be Rob’s characters that would inspire THEM - and now we all listen to Robservations - from our various residences across two states - and text and call about the episodes - and often get to dive deeper into our respective experiences and inspirations - “do you remember when this happened? Did you have a copy of that? I didn’t know you ever followed that character/artist/writer…”
So…my gratitude for Robservations. My gratitude for the work you do, and the passion you exude as you do that work. These platforms are often used for negative and critical efforts - I am grateful you sow the seeds of positivity and encouragement you do. My sons and I will continue to enjoy your Robservations - as long as you are willing to share them!”
