Description
Dateline: December 8, 2023. Rossifari Zoo News is back with a round up of the latest news in the world of zoos, aquariums, conservation, and animal weirdness!   We start our episode talking to Bekah Robinson and Carolyn Mikulskis of the Greensboro Science Center about the Winter Wonderlights event they are hosting most evenings this month at the zoo. We talk about it in specific terms, and also in broad terms...why DO zoos have these types of events? What effect do they have on the animals? Do we know? Do we consider that? Get all your answers here!  In Zoo News, we start with our births, including slow loris babies at the Little Rock Zoo, a baby orangutan at the Columbus Zoo, and a very special giraffe birth at the Seneca Park Zoo! We also say goodbye to a young red panda at Hogle Zoo, a very special cougar at Stone Zoo, and then two people...one who helped shape Zoo Atlanta as we know it, and one who was a friend of the pod and helped the Cape May County Zoo grow into the amazing place it is today.  We then move on to our other Zoo News stories: Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame has a story from the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, a great legal outcome at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, an amazing array of conservation projects launching from the Columbus Zoo, a roadside zoo losing a kangaroo, and the amusing tale of its return, and..apparently...Fiona, the musical!  In Conservation News, we talk about steps being taken to save two species that have been rediscovered after previously being believed to be extinct, and how a company is planning on bringing back the dodo bird. And in Other News, we talk about a javelina with a taste for McDonalds.
