From Warren Harding to Donald Trump, and from Barry Goldwater to Ronald Reagan, the Republican Party and the American conservative movement have undergone dramatic transformations over the past century. In this conversation, we spoke with Matthew Continetti, Director of Domestic Policy Studies at the American Enterprise Institute and author of "The Right," about the history and evolution of conservatism in the US. Continetti draws parallels between historical right-wing movements and contemporary national populism within today's Republican Party, discussing pivotal moments like the Reagan revolution and the Tea Party movement.
