“I love Liz and Matt, and they both offer really great insights into both the boss and employee perspectives of workplace issues, but I have to say, I miss the format of I Hate My Boss, and I especially miss Larry. The previous format - more Liz/Larry discussion and banter, discussing calls and emails between the two of them rather than with the caller right there, and with fewer game-like segments with weird names - really worked for me. I understand why the new version has actual people call in, but I find that it stunts the discussion: Liz and Larry were able to be blunt about listener questions in the previous series in a way that Liz and Matt can’t be here. Also, I desperately miss Larry’s insights into the motivations, experiences, and thoughts of bosses and employees alike. He really added a ton to this show, and I always looked forward to hearing what he’d have to say about any given situation. I do really like Matt, but can we have Larry too, please? (I love Liz too, I’m case that’s not clear. There are no bad hosts here!)
All this being said, what I don’t miss about I Hate My Boss is the “Penn and Pencil” sketches. Those didn’t add too much for me. But if we could go back to having discussions without the caller being right there, and bring Larry back, that would be amazing!”
