“Just wanted to say that I really enjoy this aftershow! Each of you bring such a great perspective to the show and Im just as hooked on your aftershow as I am to the actual show! I just wanted to share my theory and see what you all think re: who shot fitz. Bear with me...
So some people think Mellie just had a premonition, but what if she had some inside info that Fitz would be incapacitated and in fact actually agreed to it w/ Hollis? What would their motive be? Well, Hollis wants war in east Sudan because it helps his bottom line (to get richer), Mellie wants war in east Sudan because it helps her bottom line (fitz will likely get 2nd term, nicely setting up her post 1st lady political future) Fitz does NOT want to go to war, even more so because both she and Hollis want him to. So what if they incapacitated him for a bit so someone else could make that decision? Not a fatal wound but something that would take him out of the game long enough for Sally Langston to take over and make the move they want. They could probably sway her into going to war and by the time Fitz has recovered, the country is too deep in war for them to pull out. Fitz makes a full recovery, Hollis gets richer, Mellie gets the second term she wanted for Fitz, Langston goes back to being VP. Alls fair that ends fair, right?
Now, we know Hollis is crazy but why would Mellie go to such drastic measures? Because she's no longer his partner b/c of his feelings for Olivia and THAT makes her behave a little like a woman scorned. She warned him to stay away from Olivia (or she'll blow him away with her excellent "shot") and he doesn't... he meets with Olivia but Mellie doesn't know that they broke it off. So he's at the G8 and shes probably thinking he and Olivia are talking everyday while he cant even bother to call her to check on the baby. So...she goes through with the plan until something stops her. Maybe the true Mellie (the one that kept him warm when they were young partners) reared her head and made her have second thoughts about hurting the man that she ultimately (in some twisted way) loves. So she tries to talk him out of it and then Fitz says something that surprises her... he and Olivia are over! She genuinely looked surprised and then I think for a split second she realizes that maybe they can be partners again and she can convince him to fall in line without hurting him.That's when she grabs his hand more urgently and says "don't go". He understandably doesn't get her change of heart and gets out of the car. She looks terrified when he's shot because even though she knew he might be hurt, nothing compares to seeing someone you care for inflicted with life altering pain and this was probably nothing like she imagined it would be.
Whew... Got it off my chest. Who knows if this even makes sense but its just food for thought. Anyway, thanks for keeping me hooked to scandal and your after show. It's truly the best!
