Haters gonna hate
It really seems like someone on reddit or TikTok rallied a bunch of people to come onto here and complain about Wendy’s voice. Wendy is very passionate about science, and she’s easily excitable. And she’s an Aussie so I guess for those who struggle with accents, maybe it’s hard for them. But I find her enthusiasm very charming. I’ve listened to Science Vs. since the beginning. Back when it was still on Gimlet… I think maybe the first season was before Gimlet? Anyway, I have always loved their show. BUT. I have to say, the more recent episodes have not been as good. And when I say more recent, I mean since they moved to Spotify. I’m so disappointed they interviewed Andrew Huberman. Sure he’s a “bad boy turned scientist” who sells this notion that we can control our bodies at the cellular level. He was “grilled” on the show, but let’s be real: his presence on this show detracts from its credibility. They used to have this great structure where they’d address a controversial topic and then break down some key insights from peer reviewed literature. But now it’s very different and it does seem like they cherry pick based on their personal biases more than they used to. They’re also not super receptive to feedback. I am a scientist and I challenged them on an episode and their response to my email was defensive and not open to the conversation. The show has become less about science and more about entertainment. I guess that’s pretty normal, but its unfortunate for those like me who felt pretty seen when they first launched the show many many years ago. I still listen to the show. I still share it with friends. I still enjoy it, but gosh.. I miss when they were less influenced by what Daddy Spotify wants them to do.

More reviews of Science Vs
I'm biased because I work at Gimlet but I think this is most companionable podcast about science in existence, period. Excited for season 2.Read full review »

It's refreshing to hear an educated and unbiased opinion on a subject. Science vs is well written and well recorded. Many podcasts suffer, in my opinion, from poor audio quality. I have listened to many podcasts that sounded like they were recorded, in part or totally, over the phone. Extremely...Read full review »
