“I’m on my third episode and I have to stop.
The first one was the seed oil episode, which was kind of informative, but they brought in a scientist who knew what he was talking about and a doctor who didn’t know what she was talking about. I felt like it would have been a better debate if they had brought on two scientists who were on opposite ends of the debate and both knowledgeable. It was very one sided.
The second was the cave of the bones episode, which was pointless. I saw that documentary and walked away with “interesting but a lot of science still needs to be done”. Nowhere did they make the claim that the rock art had definitely been made by Naledi or that it was definitely a burial site. The episode was basically “it’s bad science to claim something that hasn’t been proven” but a claim was never made in the documentary.
The third, which I just ended to write this review was on tooth brushing. They talk about a study done where the control group were instructed to brush their teeth at home and the studied group got regular dental cleanings at school. THEY KEEP CLAIMING that this proved that regular teeth brushing doesn’t prevent cavities? How did they get that? I looked at the study myself to make sure I didn’t mishear them and sure enough, they’re misstating the study, repeatedly.
All science points to that brushing your teeth without toothpaste prevents as many cavities as brushing your teeth with fluoride-free toothpaste, it’s the brushing that prevents cavities. And that fluoride toothpaste works better than fluoride-free or no toothpaste at all. How did they get that teeth brushing doesn’t work to prevent cavities?
I’m really disappointed in this podcast.”
