Birth control, Emergency contraception, and Abortions are hot-button topics that should be mandatory discussions in a relationship. Everyone knows that Birth control is designed to prevent pregnancy, but Birth control methods work in a number of different ways. To be clear, “the morning after pill” or “Plan B” falls under the category of Emergency contraception and is NOT a form of birth control…. or at least it shouldn’t be viewed/used as such. So if you are sexually active or planning to be, don’t use Emergency contraception as your only protection against pregnancy. In addition, Emergency contraception does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases. “Plan B” pills are a great way to prevent pregnancy up to 72 hours after unprotected sex and can be used as a resource if a condom breaks or other means of birth control fails.
