This podcast reinvigorated my love for Wicked
As someone whose love for the Arts and particularly Musical Theatre makes up a large portion of her personality, the first year of the pandemic was rough. I know I’m not alone and I can’t even imagine how the Artists were feeling. The thing that I depended on to bring joy and hope on the hard days, was on pause. I initially avoided a lot of musical theatre related content online because it just made me miss it more (I know, so dramatic!) This podcast found me anyways though when I saw that Lindsay Pearce was the first guest. I felt like I had been rooting for her to be Elphaba for years, and quite frankly, I just wanted to know she was doing ok during the shutdown! I listened to, and loved that episode, and it brought me some much needed happiness during a personal emotional low point. I will be forever grateful. I knew when I was emotionally ready, I would listen to more. Well I have. I have listened to all of it. I can’t get enough. The obsession I had with Wicked in my late teens and early twenties has been completely reinvigorated by Kevin and Quincy’s passion for this show. They are so engaging with their (consistently wonderful) guests, and I live and breathe for their delicious humour and in-depth analysis of key moments and music from the show. I also love that we will now also be hearing from other musical theatre legends from outside of Wicked. I listen to every episode with a smile permanently plastered on my face. I finally had the chance to see Wicked on Broadway last month (my first time seeing it since seeing the tour in ‘06 and ‘08). The experience was exponentially heightened by all the analysis and inside scoop I got from this podcast. The fact that both Lindsay and Brittney had been guests on the pod and had talked about how they approached their roles, allowed me to take this journey with them all the while feeling like I was the keeper of all the secrets! I left the Gershwin on cloud 9, re-listened to each of their Sentimental Men episodes and then went back 3 days later so I could see them one more time before flying home to Canada. Thank you Quincy and Kevin for reinvigorating my love for this show and for helping to get me through the hardest days of the pandemic. It would be the greatest honour to see you both in Oz one of these days!
