Naive journalist’s thought process
I think sometimes one can look at one’s own country and say things are different now in the present because a new government changed the wrongs of the past. Things are only different until they are not. This is where the hosts fail not to put their country up to a mirror. It is naive to think that a white house wouldn’t do it again under the same circumstances. Just a personal note I am a subscriber of the NYT. I think the hosts would do themselves a favour of reading a bit more of their own country’s history during various conflicts to learn how the government of the day bent rules and laws to meet their own needs only to have it revealed much later.
