"How do I know when God is calling me to something?” It’s a question I get regularly as someone in youth ministry, but it’s not a question unique to the teenage years. It’s something we’ve all been left wondering at one time or another. “What should I do here?” “Do I take that job or not?” “Do we move over there or stay here?” “Is this an open door or a closed door?” As the work of establishing the church continues, Paul and his crew set out on the second missionary journey. This is a pivotal point in the expansion of the gospel, and in it we see God clearly directing the path of his servants. As we look to Acts 16:6-15 this Sunday, we’ll consider this story and seek to understand what truly following the call of God looks like in our own lives. I hope you’ll join us. Kevin DeYoung Harvest Mission Statement - We glorify God by making more and better disciples of Jesus Christ who love God and love others. Following the call of God in my life means, I… 1. Let him lead me. (v. 6-10) How God speaks to me: 1. Through his Word. 2.Through his Word, from someone else. 3.Through someone else. 4.Through the Holy Spirit, to my spirit. 5.Through dreams or visions. James 4:14–15 2. Let him use me. (v. 11-13) Authentic turning points in history are few. But surely among them this Macedonian vision ranks high. Because of Paul’s obedience at this point, the gospel went westward and ultimately Europe and the Western world were evangelized. Christian response to the call of God is never a trivial thing. Indeed, as in this instance, great issues and untold blessings may depend on it. Richard Longnecker 1 Corinthians 9:16 Letting God use me means: 1. I’m available. 2. I’m committed. 3. I’m humble. 3. Let him bless me. (v. 14-15)

It is quite alright for Christians to be appropriately annoyed. That is to say, annoyed over the right things in the right way. Motive matters. Method matters. In Acts 16:16-24, the Apostle Paul is “greatly annoyed” by a demon-possessed girl who was being exploited by her handlers. He’s annoyed...

It is tough when Christians don’t get along. Tougher still when we see mature, respected Christian leaders not get along. It is comforting (is that the right word?) to know that such discord was happening all the way back at the beginning of the church. Having examples of the flawed nature of the...
