“I adore this podcast, usually love the fun balanced and critical takes of the pop culture landscape and find all the girls really likeable…
But: the lack of nuance and critique and constant pass basketing of Taylor Swift, where the episodes feel completed flooded with her these days is really becoming a struggle.
While I’ll definitely keep listening to the free content for now, I just had to unsubscribe after the most recent Shamemore episode being my final straw as I found the reflections in it quite off the mark.
What I took from the shamemore ep today was that it was about how being criticised at the moment and framing it somewhat around tall poppy syndrome. My honest feeling is that it isn’t because of any pushback of perceived success of Shameless (let’s be honest, the average listener has no clue how successful media companies that run podcasts are - we just like or don’t like the content), it’s because of the lack of critique in Taylor Swift - that’s the only criticism I’ve seen of the pod!
For it it be backed by a 10 minute explainer (in the usual ep) of why they talk about Taylor so much was almost a bit insulting - again it’s not just the amount of content, it’s the lack of nuance and critique in this space, where this podcast is usually great in this way across virtually every other scenario they talk about. These empty discussions take up soooo much space where more fun, entertaining and critical conversation could exist.
Despite the 10 minute intro addressing the pods approach to the Taylor Swift content, thanks for taking the feedback on board for the rest of the ep. I really hope more balance continues in future eps and I get inspired to subscribe again x”
