Superficial Commentary
I tried several episodes of this podcast, hoping it would get better, but it never did. The commentary is always superficial, ignoring analysis of the themes and complexities of the storytelling. For example, they praised Go Fish for some reason and all expressed dislike for I Only Have Eyes for You while never discussing and unpacking the ways in which the episode deals with the idea of forgiveness and self-blame through the story, characters, and magical metaphor. And when they don’t care for an episode or do in fact like it, it feels as though the opinions are all rather superficially based with the hosts unable to specifically articulate why they find an episode good or bad. Their criteria for review is unclear, and honestly, the sound quality of the recordings are rather poor. It’s a bummer because there are seemingly many people who enjoy this one, but I recommend people to check our Still Pretty and Buffering where the quality of analysis is richer and there’s a lot more fun to be had with the chemistry of those hosts.
