I cannot agree more.
This podcast is everything I have been saying about psychiatric treatment of patients. I am a psychiatric Nurse and the episode with Dr. Eapen was everything that I know and see in my own practice. I completely agree with what she was saying, my experiences/ opinions are very similar. I can’t say how important it is to have these conversations. A few thoughts of my own: We need to address the lack of resources in the community for psychotherapy and psychiatrist follow up, like was already stated. The wait-lists are creating an increase in ED crisis visits because people can’t wait 6-12 months to speak to a professional and people do not have the ability to pay for private care. We need to address the lack of resources for people who experience homelessness, substance use concerns and dementia as their primary concern. People with these concerns generate long stays due to lack of family and community supports. This blocks beds for patients who have severe and debilitating mental illness. Thank you to the host of this podcast who is willing to approach these hard topics, ill be recommending this to colleagues.
