Realised I’m a fan and not an academic in Spidey
I have a long love with Spider-man. I’m a 41 year old doctor in psychology. One of my earliest memories was a Christmas present of a bed quilt with Spider-man fighting the Green Goblin. I grew up watching the 90’s animated series - having to wake up every Saturday morning to watch the new adventure. I replayed ‘Dr Dooms Revenge’ on my 8-bit pc again and again.... But for some reason, when I was young, I never got ‘into’ or knew about the comics. Perhaps it was the the small Lancashire town I grew up in not having the shops: but I was oblivious to the deep history behind the characters. Until of course I was much older and the internet opened much more of this tale up for me (for better and worse)... Around 3 years ago I found the podcast, and since this time I’ve been hooked. Devouring as many of the episodes as I can, on my way to and from work (and getting strange looks as I chuckle on the train)... It’s listening to the members that I realise I still knew almost nothing about Spider-man, other than the basics. These guys are professional academics of Spidey! The show is great. Genuinely funny. Passionate. Informative. Sometimes foul mouthed, always intelligent. If you have a love of Spidey, you should be listening to this podcast.
