Slightly Different OSU football podcast
I listen to multiple Buckeye podcasts and mostly while driving and the Spielman and Hooley podcast is one of my mandatory listens each week. It’s not just tOSU football but you do get minor takes on tOSU basketball and rarely another tOSU sport (wrestling), a reasonable amount of time discussing the Browns and Bengals (which is not a lot because they both are disappointing on the field but weirdly entertaining off the field) and a significant discussion (10-20 minutes) about the Christian faith at the end of the podcast which is easy to skip if you are so inclined. The football discussions are the primary reason for my listening time to this podcast. I generally laugh hearing Hooley’s frustrations and gyrations which are mostly targeted at the latest Brown’s faux pax. I listen intently when OSU football alum, Chris Spielman, gives any OSU takes that are unique to the many other podcasts that I follow. Following the 1987 football season, I was at the OSU Cleveland Alumni dinner where senior OSU players were honored and typically, the OSU head coach would be the keynote speaker recapping the past season but Coach Earle Bruce had been fired and was gone at this point. The replacement speaker was former OSU quarterback Rex Kern and I felt that his speech was so demeaning not just of Coach Bruce but specifically, aimed at the players on that team. Tom Tupa and Chris were both honored players at the dinner and Chris spoke and when he did, I believed Chris stared at and directed his comments at Kern. I personally thought Chris would have loved to have sacked Kern if he could. (I laughingly wonder now if Chris’s faith restrained him and saved Kern.) The 1987 season had its challenges from Chris Carter’s arrogance and agent hiring to OSU President Ed Jennings mishandling the Bruce firing which included the AD, Rick Bay, departing in protest which ultimately led to the hiring of John Cooper. Thanks Rex.

I can do without Hooley and his vindictive persona. Love how that MAGA has the gaul to discuss faith. Keep it to yourself and live your life righteously. Since you’re such a bible reader you know Matthew 6:1-6&16-21. Guess the only reviews that get on air are those that discuss how much they...Read full review »
