There are several unknowns when it comes to a pandemic but there is always one guarantee. People are going to be hurt and many are going to die. When that happens, people are going to grieve. This week, we are going to explore the science of grief with one of the world’s best experts, Katherine Shear. She is the Marion E. Kenworthy Professor of Psychiatry in Social Work at the Columbia School of Social Work and the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. She’s also the founding director of the Center for Complicated Grief. We’ll explore the different types of grief and also how we can cope. Moreover, we’ll find out about how the pandemic is altering the way that we find comfort and how the lack of close contact can impede our ability to cope.
