This will be the first general election held after the Alberta New Democratic Party defeated the Progressive Conservative government in 2015 - an election which marked only the fourth change of government in the province's history. It will also be the first election contested by the United Conservative Party, formed in 2017 by a merger of the Progressive Conservatives and the Wildrose Party. The future of the province is drastically depending on the outcome of this election.
